Shikoku, one of Japan’s true hidden gems, is covered by hundreds of beautiful waterfalls eight of which are on Japan’s Top 100 Waterfall list. From Todoroki-no-taki to Nikobuchi we have you covered. In this article we share our top 6 plus a map showing all of the others!
My Top 6
- 10. Hiryu Falls – The Yasui valley is home to some great waterfalls, but this one makes my top 10 because of its potential for a summer swim.
- 9. Amagoi Falls, Tokushima – A two-tiered “couple” waterfall featuring a 27-meter male fall and a 45-meter female fall.
- 8. Goraiko Falls, Ehime – Located on the back side of Mt Ishizuchi this 102-meter-high waterfall is the source of the Niyodo River.
- 7. Ryuo-no-Taki Falls, Kochi – Located close to the Kajigamori hike this mostly unknown (it’s actually on Japan’s top 100 list) area features and abandoned shrine with Coca-Cola seat linked to the nearby temple. My personal favorite.
- 6. Yukiwa Falls – Lying within the Nametoko Gorge this waterfall is unique for its smooth, but long flow over 300m of rock.
- 5. Otodoro Falls, Tokushima – This triple treat in Tokushima takes out sixth spot for its beauty in autumn.
- 4. Ogama Falls, Tokushima – Located not far from our number 6 this waterfall is impressive for its sheer noise and has an onsen nearby.
- 3. Shirai Falls, Ehime – Best visited in winter where if you’re lucky you’ll see the white frozen falls.
- 2. Nikobuchi Falls, Kochi – The amazing blue water of the Niyodogawa is at it’s best at this sacred waterfall and swimming spot.
- 1. Todoroki no taki Falls, Tokushima – Highlighted on our Best Waterfalls of Tokushima this is Shikoku’s tallest and best in our opinion. It also hosts its own sacred festivals and just feels – magic.
These waterfalls are worth the trip especially in summer but you’ll need a car for all of them.
